To unite all Uganda tea growers, processors, exporters packers and traders, under a single body that serves and advocates for their common interests through a strong unilateral approach and voice.

To ensure an increased number of association members working under an ideal policy environment for enhance private sector operation and stable industrial relations.

UTA is the umbrella body of tea companres and individuars who are in the business of growing, processing and trading in tea in Uganda’ lt was estabrished in 194g as a voruntary association to
discuss common prolclems affecting the tea industry and find solutions. UTA went into hibernation when most of the ourners of the estates left the country in r972and in 1973 the Government put in place the Ugand Tea Authority. The Tea Authority was charged with both the duties of producing and markerting Uganda’s tea. with the change in Government poricies and the return of the tea estates to therir original owners the need arose to revive the Association

Why the Association? 🌱

The Association had for many years been the platform where members expressed their views and concerns about the development of the Tea Industry in the country and its involvement in the broader global trade. Through the Association, members lobby government and other concerned organizations in furtherance of their interest in the industry, lt also represents members in a number of foras both local and internationalthereby allowing members to concentrate on running their tea plantations.
All Ugandan companies processing and exporting tea through the Mombasa tea auction market are members of UTA. The tea sector in Uganda has three categories of companies.
