How to become a member
Joining UTA is purely Voluntary, Members joining UTA will be those that are engaged in activities along the Tea Value Chain therefore, any person, collection of persons or corporate entity may apply for the membership of the Association.
The subscribers to the Memorandum of Association and such other persons as the Directors shall admit to membership shall be members of the Company. Admission shall be based on the Rules and Regulations of the Company.
Application for Membership
Any person, collection of persons or corporate body may apply for membership of the Association and attach a copy of their certificate of incorporation of their organisation/entity. Eligibility for membership shall be determined by the categories of Members.
Categories of Members (currently are the Active Members).
a) Producer and Manufacturer in excess of 500 Tonnes of black tea per annum (Processors).
b) Tea Trader, blender or packer with a distribution in excess of 500 Tonnes of black tea per annum.
c) Tea broker, Management or marketing agent handling 1,000 Tonnes of Uganda Tea per annum.
Admission to Membership
Application for membership shall be made to the Company. The application shall then be presented to Rules and General-Purpose Committee for vetting and recommendation to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall have the right to approve or reject any application by any application by a simple majority.
Acceptance of Membership
a) Upon being granted membership, the applicant shall complete and sign the Acceptance Form and return it together with the registration fees to the secretariat and an Annual subscription fee as may have been prescribed from time to time.
b) Upon payment of the registration fee and annual subscription fee the applicant will immediately become a member of the company and must be registered in the company’s register of members, and thereafter the UTA secretariat will notify the East African Tea Trade Association of the membership.
c) If the applicant does not pay any registration fee and/or annual subscription within 30 days after the date on which the person is notified of the fee and/or subscription payable, the Board of Directors may, in their absolute discretion, cancel the decision to admit the applicant as a member of the company, whether or not payment is made after the due date.
Registration, Annual Membership and Monthly Subscription fees.
a) All new members shall pay a registration fee.
b) All members in Category A (Processors) shall pay an annual membership fee of Shs.1000,000/= (One Million Shillings) to the Company payables by the 31st day of December of each year in order to participate in the Company activities for the coming year. Fully paid-up members will be given Certificates of Membership. This amount will be reviewed by the Directors annually.
c) Members who fall in categories B and C (article 3, section (ii)) shall pay and an annual membership fee of Shs.2,500,000/= (Two million and five Hundred thousand shillings) to be reviewed by the Rules and Purpose Committee.
d) All members (processors) who are producers and manufacturers shall pay monthly subscription of Ugx Shs.2.50/= on each Kilograms of made tea produced for now.
e) The Directors shall determine and review the registration fee and annual membership fees time to time for the following financial year.
f) Producers selling locally should be able to pay to the company a fee to be determined by the Directors annually.
